Mykonos

Explore the iconic windmills of Mykonos, Greece, on a sunny day, capturing their historical charm.Mykonos is, without a doubt, one of the most vibrant queer destinations in the world. Even months after leaving, I can still hear the sound of the sea and smell the salty breeze that drifts through every corner of the island. It’s a place that lingers — in your senses, in your memories, and in your heart.

Whether you choose to spend your days lounging on one of its stunning beaches, swimming in turquoise waters, or dancing through the night at one of the many queer parties scattered across the island, you simply can’t go wrong. Mykonos welcomes you with open arms and wild energy.

One of my most vivid memories is from late April, watching elderly locals step outside to repaint the entrances of their homes — and even parts of the street — in bright white. It’s a ritual of renewal, and as you walk through town, you witness the island becoming whiter and whiter, glowing under the spring sun.

Then there’s the wind by the iconic windmills — fresh, playful, and perfect for selfies. But none of that really matters, because beneath the windmills is the bar you’re waiting for to open. And just around the corner, near the Church of Paraportiani, stands the legendary JackieO’ — the number one queer bar in Mykonos. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the nights I spent there. The music is electric: Lady Gaga, Tina Turner, and every queer anthem you can imagine, all remixed into something magical. The crowd goes wild, and for a few hours, you feel like you’re part of something bigger — something beautifully alive.

Sometimes I dream of opening a bar like JackieO’, just to keep that energy with me all year round. And while JackieO’ might be the crown jewel, Mykonos offers so much more. From Elia Beach to Super Paradise Beach, you’ll find queer joy, new friends, and unforgettable moments.

For accommodation, I wholeheartedly recommend Elysium Hotel — an unapologetically queer haven. By day, it’s a serene escape by the pool; by night, it transforms into a wild celebration of queer life, with parties that pulse with laughter, music, and freedom.
